Max G2 vs Max G3: what the upgrade gets you
For the same price, the Max G3 doubles peak power, moves from a front drum brake to disc brakes front and rear, and replaces the G2's rear springs with adjustable hydraulic shocks. It also climbs steeper hills (30% vs 22%), rides on bigger 11-inch tires and has a higher water rating, all for 0.7 lb more. Unless you specifically want the G2's lower top speed, the G3 is the better electric scooter.
Max G3 vs Max G3 Plus: is the Plus worth $200 more?
The Plus adds a 717 Wh battery (vs 597 Wh), about 20 percent more energy for longer days, a built-in fast charger, wider 2.8-inch tires and stronger double-action piston disc brakes with an electronic brake on top. It weighs 1.8 lb more. If your round trip is long or you hate charging, the Plus is worth it; for shorter commutes, the Max G3 is the better value.
Speed and the NYC rules
New York treats an electric scooter as street-legal only if it is designed for 20 mph or less, and the city limit is 15 mph. The Max G2 can reach 22 mph and the Max G3 and G3 Plus 28 mph, so none of the three fits that definition once unlocked.
