MX35Wilson's MX35 Electric Dirt Bike

This is an adult electric dirt bike, and that needs saying plainly.

We also sell electric dirt bikes for children. They do 13 to 15 mph, weigh 38 lb and are built for a garden. The MX35 does 34 mph and carries 265 lb. The two things share a silhouette and nothing else, and nobody should arrive at one expecting the other.

The chassis is steel with a 60/100-14 front and 60/100-12 rear, which is proper dirt-bike sizing: a taller front for steering over rough ground and a smaller rear for traction.

Taken apart, part by part.

One MX35, four pieces. The wheels come off, the bars lift, and the body stays where it is with the pack and the motor inside it. Drag the slider under the stage to take it apart yourself.

Where the entry model does not cut corners.

There is a version of a cheap electric dirt bike that saves money in the frame and the brakes. This is not that electric dirt bike, and the reason is straightforward: we designed it, and those are the two places we were not prepared to save.

The frame is steel rather than a lighter alloy. Heavier, and considerably more tolerant of being dropped, which on a first off-road electric dirt bike matters more than a couple of pounds. Front and rear disc brakes. On a 34 mph electric dirt bike on loose ground, braking at both ends is the specification, and this is the one component where the MX37 pulls meaningfully ahead with its hydraulic four-piston setup.

1500W rated, 3000W at maximum, on a 48V 20Ah pack.

A 1500W rated motor with 3000W available at maximum is real acceleration. On a 48V 20Ah pack that gives 25 miles, which at these speeds is a genuine session rather than a lap of a field. Charging takes under six hours on the supplied 3A charger.

Rider weight, terrain and how hard you use the throttle all reduce the range. Never charge it while it is wet, or if the battery looks swollen or damaged: bring it straight in to us instead.

Where you can actually ride an electric dirt bike.

It comes up before anything about the motor, and it deserves a straight answer rather than a shrug. An electric dirt bike has a throttle, no pedals and a motorcycle layout. That usually puts it outside what is permitted on a public road, a sidewalk or a shared path, and a 34 mph electric dirt bike is firmly outside anything intended for a cycle lane.

The places it is unambiguously fine are private land, and parks or trails where the owner allows it. Rules vary between states, between towns and between individual trails, and they change.
