The Hiboy DK1 and DK2 have three speed modes, so a parent can start slow and step up. The Hiboy DK1 covers the widest age range, with a front hydraulic fork, rear shock and a disc brake, and is rated for riders up to 140 lb.
For teens: APTUM AP-2C-1
The APTUM AP-2C-1 is built for teenage and young riders rather than being a shrunken adult machine: a 2,000W peak mid-drive with 150 Nm, up to 28 mph and 31 miles, hydraulic brakes and a 27.6-inch seat, for riders up to 165 lb. It is $799.

The MX line is our own design, which means it carries the Wilson's 3-year warranty for Wilson's-designed rides: parts and labor in year one, labor in years two and three. The MX40 adds an LG battery pack with its own 5-year battery warranty, and the MX37 steps up to a mid-drive motor, dual suspension and 4-piston hydraulic brakes. The NAVEE Storm G is the branded alternative in this class, with long-travel dual suspension, at 115.74 lb.

Where you can ride an electric dirt bike
Every model in this guide is an off-road vehicle. None of them is an e-bike under New York law, and none can be ridden on NYC streets, sidewalks or bike lanes. Plan to ride on private land with the owner's permission, or at tracks and trails where electric dirt bikes are allowed. We go through the rules for where you plan to ride at handover. A Wilson's MX35 or MX40 if you want to learn without a big spend, or a Surron Light Bee X if you want a machine you will not outgrow. Both are far easier to manage than a full-size model like the Ultra Bee.
Are electric dirt bikes street legal in NYC?
No. The electric dirt bikes in this guide are sold for off-road use, on private land and approved trails and tracks.
What age is right for a kids' electric dirt bike?

What warranty comes with an electric dirt bike from Wilson's?
Wilson's-designed rides such as the MX line carry our 3-year warranty. Other brands we carry have a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects, with Wilson's managing the claim. Wear items, water damage, collisions and misuse are not covered.
