How fast does the GT73 go?
Riding'times rate the GT73 at 28 to 37 mph and the GT73 Pro at 37 to 46 mph. The lower figure is for a heavier load or a rough surface; the higher one is the best case. Both have a speed-limited mode and a full-speed mode.
The difference is power. The GT73 Pro's 60V system feeds a 3000W peak motor with 338 Nm of torque, against the GT73's 2400W peak and 126 Nm, so it pulls far harder off the line and up a climb.
One thing that confuses shoppers: Riding'times' own US store also lists a "Safety Edition" of both models, factory-limited to 15 mph and 750W. The GT73 and GT73 Pro on our site are listed at 37 and 46 mph.
How far can a GT73 go on one charge?
Riding'times rate both models for up to 85 miles on the throttle alone and up to 155 miles with pedal assist. Real range is shorter at full speed, on hills, with a heavier rider and in the cold.
- GT73: two 48V 18.2Ah packs, 1747 Wh in total, charged in 9 to 10 hours on the two 2A chargers in the box.
- GT73 Pro: two 60V 18Ah packs, 2160 Wh in total, charged in 5 to 6 hours on the two 3A chargers in the box.
Both packs lift out of the frame, so you can charge them indoors, and Riding'times state both are UL 2849 compliant. For how riding style changes range, see how far a battery-powered ride can go.
How much does the GT73 weigh?
The GT73 weighs 116 lb and the GT73 Pro 123 lb. Both carry up to 330 lb, rider and gear together. That's a machine you ride and wheel rather than lift, so plan on ground-level storage.
Seat height is 30.3 inches, and Riding'times recommend both for riders from 5'5" to 6'3". Shorter riders are steered to the smaller GT54. See GT54 vs GT54 Pro.
Is the GT73 street legal?
Riding'times don't list the GT73 or the GT73 Pro as street legal. Their official FAQ says licence, registration and insurance rules vary by country, state and city.
Their European store says the current models are meant for private property, closed courses and designated off-road areas.
With a 2400W or 3000W peak motor, neither model fits the e-bike class limits most states use. In New York, e-bikes are limited to motors under 750 watts. Whether you can ride one on the street depends on whether your state will register and plate it. For New York, see where to ride electric dirt bikes in New York.
GT73 or GT73 Pro: which should you buy?
- Choose the GT73 if 37 mph is plenty: you get the same frame, range, brakes and comfort for less.
- Choose the GT73 Pro for nearly three times the torque, up to 46 mph and half the charging time.
The full side-by-side is in Riding'times GT73 vs GT73 Pro, and the rest of the range is in the best electric dirt bikes.
