The GT54 is the Riding’times model that treats a mini motorbike as a serious machine rather than a toy. It has hydraulic brakes, an inverted fork, a motorcycle-grade tire at each end and a Fardriver controller, on a frame you can put both feet down from. Thrill-seekers ride it hard on trails; daily riders ride it to work. It is the same machine either way.

2000W peak power, mini-moto feel

A 1000W rated hub motor with a 2000W peak and 290 Nm of torque, driven by a 48V 32A vector sine wave controller. The sine wave part matters more than it sounds: it is why the throttle comes in smoothly from a standstill instead of in a jolt, which is what makes a machine this quick easy to ride at walking pace.

Three throttle gears cap the speed at 15, 22 or 40 mph. The gear is changed from the display, and the manual shows how; ask in the shop if you want it walked through.

Battery

A quick-release 48V 27Ah pack

The 1300 watt-hour battery is the largest fitted to a mini motorbike at this level, and Riding’times rate it at up to 60 miles. It releases from the frame in seconds, so it charges indoors on the 54.6V 3A charger while the machine stays in the garage, and a second pack can be swapped in for a long day. The pack is UL 2849 compliant.

Riding’times recommend the GT54 for riders from 4’2” to 5’9”: teenagers, shorter adults, and anyone who wants a machine they can flat-foot. The 27.2 inch seat is three inches lower than the GT73’s. The frame and geometry are shared with the GT54 Pro.

Riding’times GT54 questions we get asked

How fast is the Riding’times GT54?

Up to 40 mph in its top gear, depending on rider weight, terrain, battery level and riding mode. The lower gears cap it at 15 and 22 mph.

How far does it go on a charge?

Up to 60 miles from the 48V 27Ah pack. Speed, hills, rider weight and cold weather all reduce that.

Is the battery removable?

Yes. It is a quick-release pack that lifts off the frame to charge indoors, and a second pack can be swapped in.

Is the GT54 a good first electric motorbike?

It is the one most first-time riders in this range start on. The frame is compact, the throttle comes in smoothly, the suspension is adjustable and the first gear caps speed at 15 mph while a rider learns.

Is it suitable for teenagers?

Riding’times size it for riders from 4’2” to 5’9” and describe it as made for teenagers and adults alike. It is still a 2000W machine: a helmet and protective gear every ride, and an adult decides when the next gear is unlocked.

What height rider does it fit?

4’2” to 5’9”, with a 27.2 inch seat height. Taller riders get more legroom on the GT73 or GT73 Pro.

GT54 or GT54 Pro?

Same frame, brakes and suspension. The GT54 Pro moves to 60V, with 3000W peak, 338 Nm and a 50 mph top gear. The GT54’s 40 mph is plenty for most riders.

GT54 or GT73?

The GT54 is compact, light and agile with a mini-motorcycle feel. The GT73 is a larger frame with more room, two batteries, 85 miles of range and pedals. Pick by rider height first.

Is it street legal? Do I need to register it?

Riding’times doesn’t list the GT54 as street legal. Its official FAQ says that licence, registration and insurance requirements vary by country, state and city, and asks riders to check local rules before riding on public roads, bike lanes or paths. With a 2000W peak motor and a top gear of up to 40 mph, it is outside New York’s e-bike definition, which requires a motor of less than 750 watts, and outside the limits most states use for e-bike classes. Whether it can be ridden on the street depends on whether your state will register and plate it. Models over 20 mph aren’t sold or shipped to New York City addresses.

What brakes does it have?

Hydraulic disc brakes front and rear, with electronic brake assist from the motor.

What suspension does it have?

An adjustable inverted aluminium front fork with 8.3 inches of travel and a rear shock rated at 1200 lbs. We set both for your weight at handover.

Does it have a horn and lights?

Yes. An electric horn, an LED headlight, and an LED taillight with integrated turn signals. It also has an ignition key.

Can I ride it in the rain?

Light rain and splashes are fine. Never pressure-wash it, and never charge a machine that is wet or whose battery looks swollen or damaged; bring it straight in to us.

Does it come assembled?

From Riding’times it ships about 85 percent built. The tools are in the box, and our technicians can look it over at any Wilson’s shop.
