FAQ

Hiboy EX6 questions

What kind of electric bike is the EX6?
A step-through fat tire e-bike for commuting, recreation and light off-road. The low frame makes mounting easy and the 20 x 4 inch tires add stability and comfort on all kinds of surfaces.
How fast does it go?
Up to 20 mph on the throttle and up to 25 mph with pedal assist, a comfortable cruising speed for commuting and recreation.
How far does it go on a charge?
With a 165 lb rider in ideal conditions, up to 41 miles in pure electric mode and up to 75 miles with pedal assist. Weight, terrain, assist level, weather and tire pressure change it.
Is the battery removable?
Yes. The 48V 14.5Ah waterproof lithium battery lifts out for indoor charging, separate storage, security when parked, or replacement.
What riding modes does it have?
Pure electric on the throttle, pedal assist with the motor helping, and pedal-only with no motor, so you choose the mix of exercise and assistance for each trip.
How powerful is the motor?
A 500W brushless rear hub motor with 960W peak: strong acceleration, good low-speed torque, smooth power and confident climbing up to 20% grades.
Why a step-through frame?
You get on and off without swinging a leg over a high top tube. It helps riders with limited mobility, riders in skirts or work clothes and anyone who stops often in the city.
What rider height does it fit?
Riders between 5'0" and 5'9" get the most comfortable position. Taller riders should look at the EX6F, which fits up to 6'5".
How much can it carry?
Up to 300 lbs of rider and cargo, one of the highest capacities in the Hiboy range, so backpacks and groceries are no problem.
What are the fat tires good for?
Stability, shock absorption and grip on gravel, dirt, sand and uneven pavement. The bigger contact patch builds confidence in mixed conditions.
Does it have suspension and gears?
Yes. A front suspension fork absorbs bumps, and a Shimano 7-speed drivetrain shifts smoothly for hills, flats and changing terrain.
What brakes does it have?
Front and rear disc brakes for powerful, responsive stops in dry and wet conditions.
Is it waterproof?
It is rated IPX4 for light rain and splashes. Do not submerge it or ride through deep water, and never charge a wet or swollen battery. Bring it straight in instead.
How is it different from the EX6F?
Same battery, range and fat tires. The EX6 has a rigid step-through frame, a 300 lb payload and mechanical disc brakes; the EX6F adds a folding frame, hydraulic disc brakes and fits riders up to 6'5". Choose the EX6 for stability and capacity, the EX6F for portability.
Can I test ride it first, and is there a warranty?
Yes to both. Come to any of our shops and ride it next to the EX6F and P6. It is covered for one year on the brands we carry, handled in our shops by our own technicians.
Is financing available, and where do I get it serviced?
Yes, apply in the shop or at checkout and pay over time on approved credit. Service is at any of our shops, where our technicians handle brakes, tires, batteries and gears for every electric bike we sell.
