KuKirin G4 vs G4 Max: Top Speed, Weight, Range and Price
Share
The KuKirin G4 tops out at 43 mph, goes 43 miles on a charge, weighs 81.5 lb and costs $849. The G4 Max tops out at 53 mph, goes 59 miles, weighs 141 lb and costs $1,999. Choose the G4 if you ride mostly flat ground and need to lift it now and then; choose the G4 Max only if it can live at ground level and you want the range, the climbing and the extra speed. Neither is a street-legal electric scooter in New York City.
- New York State only treats a device as an electric scooter if it weighs under 100 lb and has a top speed of 20 mph or less. The G4 is built for 43 mph; the G4 Max for 53 mph and 141 lb.
- A lower speed mode does not change that: the definition is about the top speed the machine is built for.
- Ride them on private land with the owner's permission, or where local rules allow. For NYC streets, see our best commuter electric scooters for NYC.

How fast is the KuKirin G4?
The KuKirin G4 reaches 43 mph in the top of its three modes, from a single 2000W motor. The other two modes are 12 mph and 24 mph. KuKirin's marketing text lists the modes in km/h out of order; the structured spec sheet gives 12, 24 and 43 mph, which is what we publish.
How fast is the KuKirin G4 Max?
The KuKirin G4 Max reaches 53 mph, from two 1600W motors, with 23 mph and 43 mph modes below it. That is motorcycle speed on a standing platform, so full protective gear is not optional: a helmet every time and gloves at minimum.
How much does each one weigh?
This is the number that decides most purchases. The G4 weighs 81.5 lb: it folds and fits in a car trunk, but it is a two-person lift and not a machine for stairs. The G4 Max weighs 141 lb, and folding does not make it lighter. It needs ground-floor storage, and a ramp and a second person to go in a vehicle. The G4 Max does have a removable battery, so you can carry the pack indoors to charge it.
How much do they cost?
The G4 starts at $849 and the G4 Max at $1,999. The G4 offers a 12-month or 24-month warranty option at checkout, and financing is available on approved credit; see financing.
Range, charging and hills
The G4 Max wins on every capability number: 59 miles of rated range against 43, a 38° climbing rating against 20°, and a faster 7 to 8 hour charge on a much bigger battery, where the G4 needs 10 to 12 hours. The G4's single motor has fewer parts to service and no torque split between wheels, but it gives up climbing and traction on a loose uphill. If your riding is mostly flat, that trade is fine; if it includes a real climb, the G4 is the wrong machine.
Which one should you buy?
- Choose the G4 if you ride mostly flat ground, want 43 mph and 43 miles at $849, and can manage an 81.5 lb machine.
- Choose the G4 Max if it can live in a garage or ground-floor space, you want the most range and climbing in the KuKirin line, and you will ride where 53 mph is allowed.
- Consider the G3 Pro instead if you want dual motors and hydraulic brakes at far less weight than the G4 Max: the KuKirin G3 Pro is rated for 40 mph and up to 49 miles, from $1,249.
